On 31 October 2025, representatives of the Kremenchuk Flight College of the Kharkiv National University of Internal Affairs took part in an online lecture on ‘Anti-gender Mobilisations: Backlash or Project?’. The event was organised as part of the Invisible University for Ukraine programme of the Central European University (CEU), under which students majoring in Electrical Power Engineering, Electrical Engineering, and Electromechanics, the educational and professional programme ‘Electromechanics,’ and Yuliia Onyshchenko, a translator at the International Relations and Interuniversity Work Group, are currently taking semester courses in interdisciplinary fields.
The lecturer was Adriana Zaharijević, a researcher at the Institute of Philosophy and Social Theory at the University of Belgrade, known for her work in political philosophy, feminist theory and social history.
During her presentation, Ms Adriana drew attention to the phenomenon of anti-gender mobilisations, which have recently been actively manifested in various European countries. She critically analysed the common perception of these movements as a ‘spontaneous reaction’ to gender equality and human rights, suggesting instead that they should be viewed as a structured political project with its own ideological and strategic agenda.
Using examples from contemporary Serbia, the lecturer showed how showed how powerful and religious institutions use anti-gender rhetoric to strengthen political control and influence over society. The presentation covered real protests, religious marches, the ‘Family Days in Belgrade’ campaigns, and the links between anti-gender rhetoric and broader global political trends.
At the end of the lecture, the audience received a selection of useful resources for further study of the topic, including the websites https://protesti.pics/, https://pobuni.se/ and https://www.masina.rs/eng/, as well as the researcher's own scientific works published in international editions.
The participation of college representatives in such events contributes to the development of academic mobility, interdisciplinary thinking and the expansion of Ukrainian educators' and students' participation in international scientific discussions.
