The staff of the Public Library, the Scientific Activities Organisation Department, and the head of the Practical Training Department of the Kremenchuk Flight College of the Kharkiv National University of Internal Affairs took part in a specialised webinar entitled ‘StrikePlagiarism as a platform for plagiarism detection,’ organised by the Centre for Quality Assurance in Higher Education. The event focused on raising awareness about academic integrity and the effective use of modern tools for checking the authenticity of texts.

Participants gained in-depth knowledge about the key features and settings of the StrikePlagiarism system, and learned about the most common problems that arise when checking academic work.

The following issues were discussed during the webinar:

  • StrikePlagiarism mechanisms – sources for comparison, indexing principles, and match search algorithms.
  • Requirements to submit works for verification – technical conditions, file types, and rules for uploading documents.
  • Similarity coefficient indicators – explanation of match percentages, difference between direct and indirect borrowing, normative values.
  • Platform settings – use of the internal database, exclusion of individual sources, and selection of the verification mode.
  • Analysis and understanding of the similarity report – report structure, highlighting areas of concern, and determining the correct citation.
  • Types of possible text manipulation – character replacement, translation plagiarism, paraphrasing, and other ways to hide borrowing.
  • Detecting AI in texts – StrikePlagiarism tools for identifying the probable use of artificial intelligence during writing.
  • Challenges in ensuring the uniqueness of texts – common mistakes, recommendations for proper citation and reference formatting.

The participation of several college departments in the webinar was really useful:

  • Library staff improved their knowledge, which is important for advising students and teachers on academic integrity.
  • The staff of the Scientific Activities Organisation Department received useful tools for supporting scientific research, preparing publications and improving the quality of scientific content.
  • The head of the Practical Training Department deepened her understanding of the criteria for evaluating reports, abstracts, term papers and practice assignments submitted by cadets, as well as the requirements for their uniqueness and correct formatting.

The knowledge gained will contribute to improving the work of the entire staff of the Kremenchuk Flight College of the KhNUIA and ensuring high standards of academic integrity. The institution plans to continue participating in similar specialised events that enhance the quality of education and support modern requirements for writing student and scientific papers.
