On 26 November 2025, Dariia Riabtseva, teacher at the Department of Management, Social Sciences, Humanities, and Fundamental Disciplines, together with a pilot of the SES of Ukraine, conducted a binary practical class for students majoring in 272 ‘Aviation Transport’ in the discipline ‘Foreign Language for Professional Purposes’ on the topic ‘How Culture Influences Radiotelephony.’

Class participants learned about the key aspects of intercultural communication in the aviation field and the importance of standard phraseology. They discussed how national and professional cultural characteristics influence the style of radio communication, the perception of commands, and the interaction between the pilot and the ATC. The students worked on specialised vocabulary and completed interactive exercises to refresh their knowledge.

The SES pilot shared his real-life experience of interacting in international rescue operations and gave examples of communication situations where cultural barriers could have caused misunderstandings. He emphasised the need for clear and concise radio messages, the importance of discipline, and compliance with ICAO international standards for flight safety.

The students actively participated in the discussion and acted out practical radio communication scenarios. The class was dynamic and contributed to the development of professional language skills and an understanding of the role of culture in aviation safety. The educational goal was successfully achieved.
