Preventive conversation hour ‘MYTHS and TRUTHS about human trafficking’

On 18 October 2025, specialists from the Department of Social, Humanitarian, Educational, and Career Guidance Work held a conversation hour entitled ‘MYTHS and TRUTHS about human trafficking’ in the self-study room to mark the European Anti-Trafficking Day.

 The purpose of this event was to analyse the transformation of approaches to addressing human trafficking issues.

  During the class, they discussed the main aspects regarding trafficking around the world and in Ukraine in particular. Particular attention was paid to identifying the main reasons why people fall into slavery: low standard of living, desire to earn money, and inability to adequately assess job offers from hidden ‘slave traders.’ Together with the cadets, participants learned about tips that can help them avoid falling into slavery in the future:

  • Before travelling to another country, REGISTER online on the website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine in the FRIEND (Druh) system;
  • Leave DETAILED INFORMATION about your location abroad with your address and contact numbers, as well as a copy of your passport, with your friends or relatives;
  • Keep in touch with your family and friends, and immediately notify them of any CHANGES in your location;
  • Agree in advance with your family on a CODE WORD that will let them know that you are in a dangerous situation;
  • Do not give your DOCUMENTS to ANYONE except law enforcement and border service officials;
  • Do not leave your PASSPORT as collateral or ‘for processing’ additional documents;
  • Make COPIES OF IMPORTANT DOCUMENTS and keep them in a safe place separate from the originals.

   The event took the form of a dialogue, which allowed each student to express their own position and share their thoughts and feelings. During the session, the participants in the dialogue came to the conclusion that human trafficking is not a MYTH, but a REALITY!

 The class helped to better understand the significance of this Day. Today, more than ever, it is necessary to focus attention on the existing threats of falling into a situation of human trafficking.
