As part of the implementation of European human rights standards and principles of law, students of the Kremenchuk Flight College of the Kharkiv National University of Internal Affairs examined in depth the practice of the European Court of Human Rights, in particular the decision in the case of ‘Sytnik vs. Ukraine’.
During the class, they analysed the circumstances of the case, the legal position of the Court, and its significance for national law enforcement. Particular attention was paid to the violation of Article 6 of the Convention for the Protection of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms, which guarantees the right to a fair trial.
Such exposure to the practice of the ECHR contributes to the formation of high standards of legal culture among students, an understanding of human rights protection mechanisms, the strengthening of the rule of law, and is a direct part of European integration.
The class took the form of a discussion, during which participants had the opportunity to express their own legal assessment of the Court’s decision and discuss possible ways to improve national legislation, taking into account European practice.
