On 20 September 2025, the specialists of the Department of Social, Humanitarian, Educational and Career Guidance Work conducted a thematic class entitled ‘Peace Day’ in the self-study room to mark International Peace Day.
During the class, they discussed the main aspects of peace around the world and particularly in Ukraine. Particular attention was paid to the historical events that led to the introduction of Peace Day by the UN General Assembly in 1981, which is traditionally celebrated on 21 September. The holiday aims to draw the attention of the world community to issues of peace and security and to encourage people to fight for peaceful ideas. In Ukraine, Peace Day was introduced by Presidential Decree No. 100 of 5 February 2002.
The event took the form of a dialogue, which allowed each student to express their own position and share their thoughts and feelings. During the class, the participants learned some interesting facts about this holiday:
- At midday, there is a minute of silence around the world.
- The dove is a symbol of peace.
The class helped to better understand the significance of this holiday. This day is a symbol of the aspirations and hopes of humanity, and of Ukraine in particular, for a peaceful and just existence.
