On 23 August, Ukraine celebrates the National Flag Day, and the following day, on 24 August, marks the 34th anniversary of the proclamation of independence.  We are celebrating these important national holidays of the Ukrainian people in the midst of a brutal full-scale war unleashed by an aggressor country against our freedom-loving people.

A special feature of this year's celebration was a deep awareness among young people of the importance of national unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity of Ukraine, as well as deep respect for its national symbols.

A series of patriotic events were held in Kremenchuk Flight College of Kharkiv National University of Internal Affairs to mark these occasions. As part of the celebrations, words of gratitude were expressed to the defenders of our state, the memory of fallen soldiers was honoured, and flowers were laid at monuments.

On the eve of the national holidays, students and specialists of the College, together with veterans of the NGO ‘Defence of the State’, volunteers and residents of the city, took part in a solemn event at the monument to Taras Shevchenko.

On 23 August, together with cadets from the Sumy branch of the KhNUIA, a solemn ceremony was held to raise the State Flag of Ukraine. Those present honoured the memory of the fallen defenders with a minute of silence and laid flowers at the monument to the Great Kobzar – a symbol of the Ukrainian people's struggle for freedom and independence.

All events were filled with deep respect for the heroism of Ukrainian soldiers and faith in the victory and bright future of our state.

At the national level, the holiday was established by Decree of the President of Ukraine Leonid Kuchma No. 987/2004 ‘On the National Flag Day of Ukraine’ dated 23 August 2004. This decree was supplemented by Decree of the President of Ukraine Viktor Yushchenko No. 602/2009 ‘On Amendments to the Decree of the President of Ukraine dated 23 August 2004 No. 987/2004’, which established the raising of the Ukrainian flag on the National Flag Day of Ukraine and during other public holidays and nationwide events. The current edition of the decree is published on the website of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine.

Independence Day is the greatest holiday of our state!

On this day, students of the Kremenchuk Flight College of the KhNUIA talked to the citizens in search of the answer to the question of what Independence Day means to the residents of Kremenchuk. The answers varied! At the end of the event, the citizens read greetings to our state in a modern style.

This event was filled with warmth, pride in our native land and gratitude to the soldiers of the Armed Forces of Ukraine for their lives!!!
