On 12 March 2025, the Scientific Activity Organisation Department of the KFC of KNUIA organised and held a round table on the topic ‘Women who open new paths’ for students.
The purpose of the round table was to discuss the role of women in science, technology, business and public life, to promote their achievements, to inspire students to self-realisation and to overcome gender stereotypes.
The event began with a welcoming speech by Serhii Vladov, Head of the Scientific Activity Organisation Department, who emphasised the importance of gender equality and support for women in various fields of activity.
The workshop was attended by students majoring in 272 ‘Aviation Transport,’ educational and professional programme ‘Aircraft and Engine Maintenance.’
Speaker of the round table was Nataliia Kitsel, Associate Researcher at the Scientific Activity Organization Department of the KFC of KhNUIA. She spoke about the experience of women in the past, noting that for millennia, in all known great civilisations of the world, the main share of power and strength, resources and knowledge, ideology and morality belonged to men. At the same time, due to gender-determined social roles and statuses, women were usually separated from these spheres of influence. To fully understand human history as a whole, it is necessary to review traditional assessments of various historical events and personalities, taking into account women's experiences. The speaker also emphasised the need to study women's resistance to various historical events, when women show courage, flexibility, endurance and strength of spirit, choosing unconventional strategies for survival despite limited rights and opportunities. Women's experience of successful resistance to violence and survival in inhumane conditions clearly confirms the effectiveness of female solidarity.
After the speaker's presentation, a lively discussion took place, during which participants had the opportunity to ask questions and express their views on contemporary challenges in the field of gender equality. During the discussion, a number of initiatives were proposed to support women in the professional environment and education.
At the end, all participants of the round table came to the conclusion that women's history shows positive changes. Over the past centuries, the situation of women has changed: they have gained rights and opportunities that they did not have previously in world history! Women's history provides us with examples to inspire and follow, revealing not only the mechanisms of discrimination, but also effective strategies to overcome them at various levels.
