On 24 March 2025, Daria Riabtseva, the teacher of the Department of Management, Social Sciences, Humanities and Fundamental Disciplines, together with the pilots of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine conducted a binary practical session in the discipline ‘Foreign Language for Professional Purposes’ on the topic ‘At the airport’ for the first (bachelor’s) level students majoring in 272 ‘Air Transport’, educational and professional programme ‘Air Navigation. Flight Navigation’.

At the beginning, the English teacher announced the topic and the objectives of the class.  To attract students attention, the necessary vocabulary related to airport procedures and pilots communication was recalled. A game-like activity was used: The students had to recognise aviation terms and relate them to relevant actions and situations. This interactive task helped to create an active and engaged atmosphere. During the lesson, they also listened to an audio recording of negotiations at a real airport, which allowed them to adapt to the speed of speech and the specifics of aviation English.

The invited SESU pilots shared their experience of working in emergency situations, described the challenges they face in their work, and emphasised the importance of clear and understandable communication in a time-sensitive environment. Students had the opportunity to ask questions and receive valuable advice on professional development.

The class was dynamic and productive. The objectives were fully achieved, as the binary format provided students with access to the combined experience of the teacher and SESU pilots, which contributed to better acquisition of complex material.
