On 24 February 2025, Maryna Kiriukhina, the head of the Department of Management, Social Sciences, Humanities and Fundamental Disciplines, with the participation of the aircraft commanders of the special aviation detachment of the SESU in Nizhyn, conducted a binary practical lesson in the discipline ‘Aviation History’ on the topic: ‘Aviation in Wartime’ for the first (bachelor’s) level students of the groups Pdsr22-1 and Pdsr23-1b, majoring in 272 ‘Air Transport’, the educational and professional programme ‘Air Navigation’.
At Kremenchuk Flight College of Kharkiv National University of Internal Affairs, there was a binary lesson in the discipline ‘Aviation History’ dedicated to the topic ‘Aviation in Wartime’. The objective of the class was to expand students knowledge about the aviation role in military conflicts, both in the history context and in modern circumstances.
A distinctive feature of the lesson was a participation of two pilots from Nizhyn, who shared their experience. At the beginning, the teacher present to students the historical aspects of military aviation development, from the First World War to the Second World War, with the special emphasis on the Ukrainians aviators’ contribution.
After that, pilots from Nizhyn spoke about modern challenges for military pilots, including the aviation role in hybrid warfare and the use of unmanned aerial vehicles. They shared personal stories and experience, which help students to understand the realities of modern military aviation.
During the class, the participants actively discussed the flight safety issues, modern technologies used in aviation, and psychological aspects of pilot’s work in wartime. The students had the opportunity to ask questions, which were answered by pilots, demonstrating the high level of professionalism and dedication to their work.
The class contributed not only to expanding knowledge on aviation history, but also to fostering patriotic feelings and respect for military profession. The students got a unique opportunity to hear first-hand stories, which greatly increased their interest in the discipline.
The lesson ended with the teacher summing up the results and thanking the pilots for their valuable contribution. Conducting such binary classes with the involvement of practitioners is extremely useful for students, as it allows them to combine theoretical knowledge with practical experience.
