On 11 December 2024, Daria Ryabtseva, a teacher of the Deparrtment of Management, Social Sciences, Humanities and Fundamental Disciplines, with the participation of a practical phychologist and therapist Vira Slavunik, conducted a binary lesson for 1st year students in the discipline ‘Foreign Language for Professional Purposes’ on the topic ‘«Stress and Decision-Making sin High – Stakes Sitiation».

The class began with the announcement of the topic and objective by the English teacher. To attract the attention of the students, they refreshed the necessary vocabulary related to stress and decision-making factors. A game was used: students had to match the terms to the definitions and situations presented on the cards. This interactive start created an active and focused atmosphere. Students moved on to group work and identified the main stressors and their impact on cognitive functions.

During the lesson, students listened to an audio recording of a case simulating high-pressure conditions. A practical psychologist Vira Slavunik organized a discussion of the impact of stress on cognitive functions and presented strategies for overcoming it. This helped students to connect theoretical knowledge with practical examples. A practical psychologist explained the psychological aspects of the impact of stress on operators’ work. Role-playing games were also conducted, in which students practiced decision-making under stress.

The lesson was dynamic and prolific. The goals were fully achieved as the binary format allowed students to access the combined experience of both teachers, which contributed to better learning of complex material.
